Dua Lipa is reportedly suing Samsung for using her photo on television packaging without her approval or permission.
The pop star has filed a $15 million lawsuit against the tech giant, alleging that it used her image on boxes for various television models sold across the United States. According to the lawsuit, filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Lipa claims Samsung prominently displayed her photograph without her consent.
Key Allegations in the Lawsuit
The legal action includes several serious claims regarding the unauthorized use of her brand:
- Copyright Infringement: The image was reportedly taken during Lipaโs 2024 Austin City Limits Festival performance; Lipa claims she owns the copyright to that specific image.
- Trademark Infringement: Unauthorized use of her likeness in a commercial capacity.
- Misappropriation of Likeness: Using her image to imply a professional relationship or endorsement that does not exist.
Impact on Consumers
Lipa reportedly became aware of the packaging in June 2025 after images began circulating on social media, with fans dubbing the product the “Dua Lipa TV Box.” The lawsuit argues that Samsung financially benefited from the false appearance of an endorsement, citing fan comments as evidence:
“Iโd get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it,” wrote one fan. “Thatโs how obsessed I am. Thatโs how much I love her.”
“I wasnโt even planning on buying a TV, but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” commented another.
Protecting a Premium Brand
The lawsuit emphasizes that Lipa is highly selective with her partnerships, noting her official brand deals with luxury names like Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari, and Nespresso. According to the filing, Samsungโs conduct “makes a mockery” of the hard work she has put into establishing her successful, curated brand.
