Young Pharmacist Gunned Down Days After Opening Community Practice

A young pharmacist, Nomzila Madinane, who recently opened a new pharmacy to improve healthcare access in KwaNyuswa, near Hillcrest, has been shot and killed. The brutal attack also claimed the lives of a cashier and a security guard.

KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that three counts of murder are being investigated following the shooting, which occurred on Tuesday, May 19.

Madinane had reportedly established the practice after identifying a critical gap in the area, noting that numerous local residents were forced to travel long distances to access basic healthcare services. Her initiative was driven by a desire to give back to the community.

The attack has left community members shocked and distraught. Local residents described Madinane as a dedicated young professional deeply committed to uplifting those around her.

“Inchanga police have opened three cases of murder following an incident in which two females and a male security guard were shot by unknown suspects,” said KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

According to authorities, two of the victims were fatally shot and died at the scene, while the security guard later succumbed to his injuries.

The motive for the attack remains unknown. Police investigations are underway to determine whether the incident was a robbery or driven by another motive, amid widespread speculation on social media regarding the timing of the attack.
