The Nobangela vs. Dominic Fallout: A Harsh Lesson in Digital Footprint

Nobangela Lokishi recently spoke out about how internet personality Dominic Zaca had him arrested and sued him for R45,000 following homophobic and fatphobic comments. As a result, Nobangela now has a criminal record and is barred from studying for the next seven years.

The 2024 Video and Lawsuit

The feud began in 2024 when Nobangela spoke ill of Dominic Zaca while advertising a sneaker brand. Following severe backlash and a lawsuit, Nobangela removed the video from his platform.

Dominic responded publicly in a video, stating:

“You owe me R45,000. I have reached out to the sneaker brand, and they stated they did not approve this content. This means you took it upon your own liberty and free will to use me, my likeness, and my video to create content for them.

I know you do not have R45,000 because you are a student. Nonetheless, since you want to play smart and show off, I want you to figure out how you are going to pay me within the next seven days. You used my name to validate a brand that I know nothing about.”

Dominic further emphasized that if the R45,000 was not paid within seven days, his lawyers would take over, adding that his name gets people ratings and viewership, which is why they keep using it while pretending to hate him. At the time, the public assumed the feud would die down, as Dominic frequently threatens legal action against online bullies.

The 2026 Consequences: A Ruined Future

Fast forward to 2026, and Nobangelaโ€™s future has been severely impacted. He revealed that while he was accepted into every university he applied to this year, his arrest deterred him from continuing his studies.

During the university registration process, he was required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate and a National Child Protection Clearance. Because his arrest record showed up, he was unable to register. When he inquired about the issue, he was shocked to learn that the legal case against him was back in motion, as he had assumed the matter was resolved. Consequently, he was arrested and imprisoned for four months before being released.

Public Reaction

The situation has divided South Africans online. Some people believe Nobangela got what he deserved and that a simple apology could have fixed it. Others are shocked by how much a digital footprint can ruin someone’s life and feel bad for him. Ultimately, this case shows how powerful social media is and how quickly online choices can cause permanent, real-world consequences. It leaves many wondering: is a single viral mistake worth a ruined future?
