With only six days left before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, teams are putting the final touches on their preparations, including the kits they will wear throughout the tournament. FIFA has released the official match colors for all 72 group-stage fixtures across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, giving supporters their first glimpse of how the competing nations will take to the field.
FIFAโs Kit Policy
Behind the scenes, equipment managers from all 48 participating countries are working closely to ensure players have the correct match kits ready for footballโs biggest event. Generally, FIFA prefers teams to wear their traditional first-choice colors. However, if a potential clash exists between competing teams, one of the nations must use an alternative. Before making a final decision, FIFA reviews the colors of both teams’ outfield kits, goalkeeper kits, and the match officialsโ uniforms.
Furthermore, the governing body aims to create a distinct contrast between light and dark-colored kits to improve visibility for players, officials, broadcasters, and supporters. This policy is specifically designed to assist individuals with vision deficiencies.
As a result, Bafana Bafana will be banned from wearing their green jersey in all of their Group A matches. In their opening match against Mexico, Bafana Bafana will wear their all-yellow home kit (yellow shirt, yellow shorts, and yellow socks). This will create a sharp contrast with Mexico, who will take the field in their green home shirt, white shorts, and red socks.
For their second match against the Czech Republic, Bafana Bafana will wear their standard combination: a yellow jersey, green shorts, and yellow socks. Finally, for their last group-stage match against South Korea, Bafana Bafana will return to their full, all-yellow kit.
Tournament Badges
In addition to specific team colors, every jersey worn during the tournament will feature the official FIFA World Cup Badge on the right sleeve. The left sleeve will carry a special social impact campaign badge, which will display various messages throughout the tournament. During the group stage, all teams will wear the โUnite for Peaceโ badge, highlighting FIFAโs global campaign to promote peace and unity through football.
At the end of the day, football isn’t about the colors a team wears, but the heart they bring to the pitch. Whichever kit is accepted, South Africa will be there, ready to take on the world stage and make the nation proud.
