Cape Town Competes with Paris, NYC, and London for Art and Culture

Cape Town has been ranked the 5th best city for art and culture in the latest Time Out report.

Time Out Survey

The publication set out to identify cities that are accessible and affordable, offering the best culture and arts in the world. It has been noted that Cape Townโ€™s arts and culture is not only layered but ever-evolving. Annually, Time Out conducts a report to seek out the worldโ€™s cultural capitals, areas where locals and tourists can easily access and enjoy art collections, theatre, music, and cultural celebrations at affordable prices.

This study was conducted by surveying 24,000 residents from over 150 cities, asking them to evaluate the affordability of the arts and culture in their cities. They were also asked what their cities excel in mainly, such as comedy, carnivals, live music, or literature.

To ensure that the list represents the best cultural cities globally, Time Out only included the highest-scoring cities from each country.

Moreover, the Labia, Baxter Theatre, and Artscape Theatre were highlighted as part of the cityโ€™s beauty.

โ€œIn 2026, Cape Town is experiencing a blockbuster year for art. Brand-new cultural moments include the recent immersive digital art installation Lumenocity and the limited-edition Veuve Clicquotโ€™s Emotions of the Sun Magnum Photos collaboration,โ€ said Brophy.

Time Out reported that in its survey, Capetonians expressed a strong approval of their city, giving it 84% for arts and culture, and 60% for affordability.
