The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has confirmed that the drama series Pimville will stop airing on SABC 2, effective immediately.
The SABC says the suspension is due to unresolved contractual issues and alleged violations tied to the programmeโs production company.
Why Pimville was pulled from SABC 2
In an official statement, the SABC announced that it has discontinued the series โfrom tonight,โ citing unresolved agreements and breaches that were formally identified and communicated to Bakwena Productions.
โFollowing a thorough review process and careful consideration, the SABC regrets to announce that Pimville will be discontinued from tonight, due to unresolved contractual obligations and breaches identified and communicated formally to Bakwena Productions,โ the statement said.
โAs previously communicated publicly by the Corporation, it was subsequently identified that certain approved oversight mechanisms were not implemented consistently and to the required standard. Consequently, an internal consequence management process has been initiated in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and labour law requirements. In addition, a legal process is currently underway regarding the production company, including the issuing of a notice of breach in April 2026. Any further action will be guided by ongoing contractual, legal, and governance processes.โ
Timeslot changes
With Pimville removed from the schedule, SABC 2โs 21:00 slot will temporarily feature repeat episodes from Season 2 of Amalanga Awafani.
The SABC also stated that it has already started engaging with representatives of the cast and crew regarding the concerns raised, adding that it is focused on safeguarding affected stakeholders and finding possible solutions for the showโs future.
Additionally, the SABC apologized to viewers for the disruption caused to the channelโs programming schedule while the future of the show remains uncertain.
Social media concerns
This announcement has sparked numerous online conversations, with many people expressing empathy for the actors who will lose their jobs. Others claimed that no one watches the SABC anymore, viewing this as the beginning of the end for the channel.
