Drake has broken Michael Jacksonโs Billboard record for the most number 1 hits by a solo male artist, surpassing one of the most enduring benchmarks in music history.
This achievement was sealed by “Janice STFU” hitting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, capping off a 15-year run of data-proven chart dominance across albums, features, and surprise drops.
Drake Surpasses Michael Jacksonโs Record
The song “Janice STFU” marks Drakeโs 14th career Hot 100 leader, breaking his tie with Michael Jackson for the most number 1s among solo males over the chartโs 67-year history.
Additionally, Drake set a new record for the most single entries on the Hot 100 in a single week, surpassing Morgan Wallen, who charted 37 songs in one week last May. With 40 new debuts, Drake also becomes the first act to accumulate more than 400 career entries on the chart.
Drake’s Response
Drake appeared to acknowledge this milestone in an Instagram post on Tuesday, featuring an altered image of Jackson seemingly frozen against an Arctic backdrop with his hair turned blue, similar to the album cover for Iceman.
In the Instagram post, the caption read:
โNeck broke from carrying the chain/ back broke from carrying the game/ Records broken carry my name/ Carry on carry onโ
The rapper has repeatedly alluded to Jackson in his music in recent years, framing his own legacy in relation to Jacksonโs. The cover for Drakeโs recent album, Iceman, appears to nod to Jackson by featuring a rhinestone-studded glove reminiscent of the late singerโs signature accessory.
Chart-Topping Domination
Across the top 10, Drake occupies 9 of the slots, with Ella Langleyโs “Choosin Texas” sitting at No. 5. With this feat, he extends his record to a total career count of 90 songs to hit the top 10. Moreover, he is now the first act to ever have more than 400 career entries on the Hot 100.
Over the weekend, Iceman, “Habibti,” and “Made of Honour” made chart history as they debuted at Nos. 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Iceman earned 463,000 equivalent album units, securing Drake his 15th chart-topper and surpassing Jay-Zโs previous record for the most No. 1 albums among solo men and R&B artists. It is safe to say he is indeed the king of rap!
