Tyla has walked away with two awards at the American Music Awards (AMAs), prevailing over Burna Boy, Moliy, and Rema in the Best Afrobeats Act category.
The Joburg born star triumphed at the 52nd annual AMAs, winning both Best Afrobeats Act and Social Song of the Year for her hit track, “Water”. In the Afrobeats category, she beat out African heavyweights such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Moliy. Furthermore, having won the same category last year, her consecutive victory proves that this title truly belongs to her.
Breaking Boundaries Internationally
Born and raised in Johannesburg, the South African singer and songwriter skyrocketed to global fame with her 2023 chart topper “Water”. The track made her the first South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years. Today, she continues to break boundaries by taking home two American Music Awards.
With this win, the megastar has also become the first international artist to win Social Song of the Year. “Water”, which is an empowering Amapiano and R&B track about desire and confidence, remains one of Tylaโs most successful releases, surpassing millions of streams worldwide.
A Continuous Trajectory of Success
Additionally, the singer secured her second Grammy Award this year when her track “Push 2 Start” was honored for Best African Music Performance.
Alongside her massive wins, she also received nominations for Best Female R&B Artist and Best Music Video. With the upcoming release of her highly anticipated project on July 24, 2026, Tyla continues to prove that she is fully committed to remaining one of the top music acts in the world.
