In a bizarre turn of events, a massive 700 kilogram albino water buffalo named “Donald Trump” has been saved from the butcher’s block by the Bangladeshi government. The animal has become a viral global sensation, all thanks to a very uncanny, presidential hairdo.
A Presidential Hairstyle in the Pasture
The rare, pinkish skinned water buffalo was raised on the Rabeya Agro Farm in Narayanganj, just outside the capital city of Dhaka. Because of a genetic condition known as albinism, the buffalo looks entirely different from the dark skinned livestock typical to the region. However, it wasn’t just his light hide that caught the public’s eye, it was the distinct, flowing crown of sun bleached, golden blond hair neatly swept across his forehead.
Pampered Like a Celebrity
“My younger brother picked the name because of that extraordinary hair,” farm owner Ziauddin Mridha told reporters. Mridha noted that while the buffalo shared the name and signature look of the U.S. President, he was incredibly gentle natured. To keep up appearances, the buffalo was treated to a life of luxury, which included four bucket baths a day and careful styling with a pink hairbrush.
As photos and videos of the lookalike animal exploded across TikTok and Facebook, crowds of curious onlookers, families, and media outlets flocked to the farm to take selfies.
Saved at the Eleventh Hour
However, danger loomed as the Muslim majority nation prepared for the annual Eid al Adha festival, during which millions of livestock are traditionally sacrificed. The celebrity buffalo had actually been sold to a local businessman for 385,000 taka and was scheduled for ritual slaughter.
But public obsession with the animal grew too large to ignore. Citing an unusual level of public interest and security concerns over the massive crowds gathering to see it, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Home Affairs intervened at the final hour. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed officially ordered the buffalo to be spared and the buyer fully refunded.
A New Home at the Zoo
The buffalo was safely taken into police custody before being transferred to his permanent new home at the National Zoo in Dhaka. Zoo officials have already prepared a specialized shed and assigned a dedicated caregiver to ensure the famous animal gets to live out his days in peace.
Looking closely at his signature golden locks, do you think there is a resemblance to the president?
