It’s Official: Stranger Things is Not Over Yet

New data reveals that Netflix’s biggest franchise, Stranger Things, might never truly come to an end.

It has been close to 10 years since Stranger Things premiered on Netflix, and no one could have predicted how massive it would become. The show’s immense success and widespread appeal launched an empire of spinoffs, toys, games, plays, merchandise collaborations, comics, and books alongside the flagship TV series. Even after Stranger Things premiered its fifth season, it carried a massive cultural weight, reminiscent of HBO’s Game of Thrones, and showed no signs of slowing down.

Moreover, a new report by Variety revealed that Stranger Things was the most-watched series of the recently concluded 2025-2026 TV frame across broadcast, cable, and streaming. The show concluded its final season with an average of 32.9 million viewers over a 35-day window, roughly seven million more than Netflix’s His and Hers, which came in second place.

Although Stranger Things is not currently number one on Netflix, it dominates the top 10 most popular shows of all time. Seasons 4 and 5 currently hold the third and fourth place spots, surpassed only by Adolescence in second place and Wednesday Season 1 in the top spot. Nielsen’s recent data proves that Stranger Things remains one of the most-watched and influential Netflix properties of all time. In April, Netflix confirmed that all five seasons had reached a cumulative 1.5 billion views. Although the main show concluded in December, Netflix continues to develop the IP, with plenty of Upside Down madness still to come.

Stranger Things Stories in the Works

The prequel play for the franchise, titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow, has been confirmed for a filmed release. Additionally, the first season of the animated “in-betweenquel,” Stranger Things: Tales from 85, was popular enough to warrant a renewal just days after its premiere in late April.

Both spinoffs add to the original show’s lore and timeline:

  • The First Shadow details the lives of Joyce Byers, Jim Hopper, and Henry Creel in Hawkins during the 1950s.
  • Tales from 85 explores what the Party was up to during the winter between seasons 2 and 3.

Why Stranger Things Keeps Getting More Interesting

Netflix and the Duffer brothers have mastered a foolproof way to engage viewers with Stranger Things-adjacent stories without overcomplicating the universe. By continuously introducing new characters and villains, there is virtually no limit to what they can achieve or produce. However, the danger lies in potentially flooding the market and alienating the audience instead of enticing them.

The series has evolved significantly over time. In its first season, it was a perfect blend of ’80s nostalgia, exciting characters, and an intriguing monster mystery. As the series continued, the premise expanded. By the end, the final season had transformed into a massive sci-fi spectacle with complex concepts.

For Stranger Things fans, the story is far from over…
