Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have officially called it quits.
According to reports, the couple has ended their relationship after nearly three years of dating. The “Hate That I Made You Love Me” singer and Slater, 34, were first spotted together in July 2023 after meeting on the set of Wicked. Grande plays Glinda, while Slater plays Boq. Their relationship was made official in November 2024, when they shared an Instagram post together at multiple promotional events for Wicked and Wicked: For Good over the last year and a half. In November, Slater called Grande’s performance in the Wicked sequel “out of this world.” In March, Grande offered a message of support for the final performance of Slater’s Off-Broadway play, Marcel on the Train, which Slater rewrote and starred in.
In one of her Instagram stories on March 22, the singer wrote, “Congratulations on a beautiful run of this very beautiful show,” along with a butterfly emoji and two heart outlines, adding, “So very proud.” A source told PEOPLE in November that the two were “making it work” despite their busy schedules and were very supportive of one another’s careers. The singer previously praised Slater in a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, calling him “such an amazing person.”
Inside the Breakup
A source told Page Six: “Ariana and Ethan broke up several months ago, but they have remained friends since then and have nothing but respect and admiration for one another. This wasn’t a decision they took lightly, but they realized they were better off as friends than in a committed relationship. Ariana is feeling really happy and focused on the next chapter with her Eternal Sunshine tour and the upcoming release of her album, Petal.”
Ariana Grande is handling the breakup well and remains focused on her career. Another source said she has been spending most of her time preparing for her tour and is in a positive mood.
The breakup news comes a day after Grande shared an unusual moment during a performance. While singing Thank U, Next, she performed the lyric, “Only wanna do it once, real bad,” then held up two fingers while laughing. This gesture caught fans’ attention, as many interpreted it as a joke about getting married a second time, even though her marriage to Dalton Gomez ended in divorce.
For Ariana Grande, it is thank u, next literally.
