Jub Jub to Appear in Court Over Alleged Kidnapping and Shooting

Media personality and TV host Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, is making headlines once again after being arrested for an alleged shooting and kidnapping. The 45-year-old media personality is set to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following an incident involving an e-hailing driver. This development comes after the TV star was arrested on Sunday evening, June 12, on charges of kidnapping, the unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.

The alleged confrontation took place at 07:30 local time (05:30 GMT) in Edenvale, shortly after the driver had dropped off a passenger. Maarohanye reportedly confronted the driver, forced the unnamed man into his vehicle, and fired a gun toward him. According to reports, the man escaped unharmed and immediately drove to the nearest police station to report the incident. Jub Jub has not yet commented publicly in response to these allegations. Police state that the TV star, who was once one of South Africa’s most popular musicians, will make his initial court appearance on Wednesday.

This is not Maarohanye’s first high-profile encounter with the law. In 2012, he was convicted of murder and attempted murder after killing four schoolchildren and injuring two others during a drag racing incident. South Africaโ€™s High Court overturned those verdicts two years later, convicting him of culpable homicide instead. More recently, in 2023, the TV star was arrested on charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault following allegations made by an ex-girlfriend. Maarohanye currently hosts Uyajola 99, a popular reality TV show that exposes cheating partners. Jub Jub is never beating these allegations.
